Acolyte and Acolyte Parent Procedures

·       Please be prepared by wearing comfortable shoes and lightweight clothing.

·        Acolytes get Robes and Candle lighters across from kitchen on second floor, be sure to use the belt that is provided.

·        Acolytes wait in narthex and sit on back pew until appropriate time to process.

·        Review instructions with Acolytes, test candle lighters to make sure they slide up & down, test lighter.

·        Acolytes are to begin processing down the center aisle as soon as the music begins which is usually the Voluntary  - about 10:55am.

·        Acolyte Parent is to watch Acolytes process, may go ahead to reserved pew but take lighter with you.  If both of the candle lighters extinguish, Acolyte Parent will need to go up to chancel and re-light them.

·        If one of the candle lighters goes out the Acolyte who still has light should stop and proceed to re-light the other candle lighter.

·        Acolytes are to light the candles in the back of the chancel, then snuff out their candle lighter and push back up the wick so that a quarter of an inch sticks out.  If they don't push the wick back out it will become stuck in the candle lighter as the wax hardens.

·        Acolytes should turn together to begin walking back from the chancel to their reserved seat.

·        During the worship service, Acolytes are to model their own participation i.e. singing, prayers, corporate response through as much of the service as possible.

·        During the Doxology, Acolytes should be picking back up their candle lighters from underneath the pews in front of them in preparation to process back up to the chancel.

·        As the congregation begins singing the first verse of the last hymn, the Acolytes are to leave the pew and begin processing back up to the chancel.

·        Acolytes walk to the candles at the back of the chancel and re-light their candle lighters and then snuff out the candles.

·        Acolytes turn around and face the congregation and stay at the back by the candles until the Adult choir has processed out of their pews.  After the last choir member has passed, Acolytes walk down the steps and stand on the floor in front of the pastors.

·        Acolytes continue standing in front of the pastors until the Benediction has been said.  Then, Acolytes process down the center aisle leading the pastors out of the sanctuary.

·        Acolytes are to go through the narthex to the stairs by the children’s hallway to return their robe and candle lighters to the area outside the balcony.  Please do not go up the balcony steps in the narthex.

Ø      For Communion Sundays: Acolytes are to go to the small narthex during the Affirmation of Faith and assist with carrying up the Communion elements and return to their seat.   Acolytes will process out as usual, there will be a prayer following Communion for them to prepare to leave as last hymn begins.
