First
Presbyterian recognizes children as an important part of our community of
faith, and welcomes them to take an active part in worship, in learning, and
in loving one another, as Christ first loved us. Whether you have children
or grandchildren, now or in the years to come, we hope that you will choose
to help them grow in faith and knowledge here at First.
Children’s Ministry at FPC

We are Partners in
Ministry! Please join in……
Our Faith Development
Ministry at FPC is coordinated by the Christian Education (C.E.) Committee
which is sub divided into three planning councils. Representing the
session the 2009-10 Chair of C.E. is Elder Joanne Bartsch.
Children’s Ministry is
planned and coordinated by The Children’s Council, one of the three
sub-councils of the Christian Education Committee.
Children’s Council Chair
is Cindy Clarke and council members are: Rebecca Huntley, Ami Greene,
Paula Vasey, Andrea Samuels, Lisa Bridges and Nancy McNeill— staff liason.
Many additional volunteers partner with the Children’s Council in offering
education, worship, fellowship, and outreach ministry with children and
families.
Your help is needed in a
variety of areas of ministry: Sunday morning nursery or teaching Bible
Journeys classes; helping with special activities such as our upcoming
Fall Festival; assisting in planning family and children outreach
projects; helping with children’s involvement in worship. If you would be
willing to partner with us in any of these areas of ministry or have
suggestions to offer, please contact Chair Cindy Clarke ( 628-2487) or
Director of Faith Development Nancy McNeill (253-1431 ext.126)
A Note from
the Children’s Council...
February 17, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of Lent. At the Ash
Wednesday Service ashes are placed on our foreheads to remind us of our
mortality; the sign of the cross a reminder as children of God we share in
eternal hope through Jesus Christ. Lent is a forty day period of
preparation for Easter. Purple is the color associated with Lent. Purple
represents royalty and penitence. Purple reminds us to take inventory of
ourselves in preparation for Easter.
As
families we can be intentional to spend time in Lent remembering stories
of Jesus, praying & reading the Bible and discovering new ways to serve
God. Rather than giving up something for Lent, we can be challenged to
engage with God at a new level. The Children’s Council is encouraging
parents to participate in training for Saturday Sanctuary in February as
one way to serve God and our community. Make a pledge to participate in
Saturday Sanctuary on February 6th
. Childcare will be provided for children of all ages.
During the
next
forty days as we journey through Lent, I invite you to make time to use
any one or more of the free resources we have available for you as a
family or individually as parents to deepen your relationship with God.
