First Presbyterian Church of Asheville
Claimed by the Triune God, we worship only God
and are called by the Holy Spirit
to share the boundary breaking love of Christ
in our life together, in the heart of Asheville,
                         and in the whole world.

Our annual congregational retreat provides a unique opportunity for our church family— members and friends alike — to step back from the press of everyday responsibilities and be renewed in our life together. As we worship, study and play, we draw closer to God and to each other. This year we will explore what it means to be the body of Christ. The recent arrival of our new pastor, Mark Burnham, and his family, gives us much to celebrate. Whether you are new to the congregation or a longtime member, the retreat provides a wonderful time to forge, renew and deepen relationships.

We kick things off with a cookout on Friday evening, followed by fun getting-to-know-you activities. Before we scatter for the night we share evening vespers, then leave the night owls to talk and play games.

Saturday morning we share morning prayer, followed by conversation in small and large groups. In the afternoon, there are many options from which to choose: hike, knit, study, bake, play in the stream, or curl up with a book—there’s something for everyone. And you won’t want to miss the congregational talent show on Saturday night—you’ll see sides of staid Presbyterians you could not have imagined!

Meals are served buffet-style in the Galax Dining Room of the Assembly Inn. Most people also choose to stay at the inn, but it is possible to commute to the retreat if that works better for your household.
