First Presbyterian Church of Asheville
Claimed by the Triune God, we worship only God
and are called by the Holy Spirit
to share the boundary breaking love of Christ
in our life together, in the heart of Asheville,
                         and in the whole world.

Gardner Fellowship Hall         Sunday, December 6 (12:15-2:00 PM)

This year marks the 8th anniversary of our Loaves & Fishes Alternative Gifts Market benefiting local and international non-profit agencies who are doing God’s work in the world. Not only does Loaves & Fishes provide agencies with much needed resources, but it is a great way to reach out to the larger church community, spreading the good news that even in the midst of our consumption-driven society, we can honor each other by giving gifts that matter! During the market agency representatives will be available to share more about their work in the community.

Here’s how it works: in exchange for a donation to a charitable cause of your choice, you receive a card and gift insert you can send to someone on your Christmas list. The card and insert will let your loved ones know that a gift in their honor has made to an agency doing good work in the world. A brochure/order form describing all the agency options will be sent later in November, and you can either attend the fair on December 6th or drop your order off to the church before December 18 to ensure you have your cards in time for Christmas.

This year we welcome Trinity Episcopal and Central United Methodist Churches as our co-sponsors. Trinity and Central members will serve as volunteers and advocates for the event. Several agencies with close ties to Central and Trinity are included in this year’s fair, along with agencies near and dear to Presbyterian hearts such as our Child Care Center and the Guatemala Scholarship program in La Blanca.

We will also have available for sale at the market a number of handmade items from Uganda and Guatemala that will directly benefit the artisans.

We need your help to spread the word about this opportunity to your friends and neighbors!
The brochure is available here online in pdf format. Orders will be received by FAX and through the mail. If you would like to volunteer with this program, please contact Jo Nan Hester or Lynn Kieffer.
