Our theme for Lenten worship will be the practices of everyday spirituality. The Lenten services will weave together a set of daily practices that help us attend to the presence of God and move our hearts toward Christlikeness. In her book An Altar in the World, Barbara Brown Taylor writes, “Anything can be a spiritual practice once you are willing to approach it that way-once you let it bring you to your knees and show you what is real, including who you really are, who other people are, and how near God can be when you have lost your way.”
For children and those who would read with them, we offer companion picture books, recommended from Picture Book Theology, by Hanna Schock and chosen by Rev. Kathryn Johnson Cameron for our Lenten practice. The books are available in our library during Lent.

For information or to attend a group, email Rev. Kathryn Johnson Cameron.
Descriptions of the groups:
For those unable to attend in person, we offer an online “Writing Practice". The first prompt will occur on Wednesday, March 6th and then every Sunday in Lent from March 10th- April 7, 2019. Paper copies of the Writing Practice will also be available at church.
Sunday, March 10th- April 7,2019: at First Presbyterian Church @ 9:45 a.m. in Room 203, Contemplative Prayer with Alice Petersen.
Alice describes the class in this way: In our noisy world, being quiet enough to pray is sometimes difficult. Each Sunday we will have a short time of instruction in centering prayer. We will enter into silence gradually increasing amounts of time in order to hear the whispers of God’s Spirit. We will use personal journaling to capture thoughts that occur during the silence.
