December 19  Longest Night Worship Service

*6:30 p.m. Campbell Chapel On the longest night of the year, we are particularly mindful of those who are grieving or in pain this Christmas, and so we come together before God to honor and recognize our sadness. All are welcome to gather for prayerful worship of Jesus, the source of our hope and the light of the world who is with us even in darkness.

December 24 Christmas Eve Worship Services

* 11:00 a.m. Lessons & Carols Worship with Communion
Our Sunday morning worship will be in the Sanctuary.

* 5:00 p.m.  Family Worship with Candlelight
All are invited for this intergenerational worship.  All children who attend are invited to participate in part of the service.  The Passing of the Christmas light at the conclusion of the service reminds us of Christ, the light of the world.

Homeless Ministries Offering
(at 5 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.)
The congregation is invited to bring an offering of  money to support our various outreach ministries serving those experiencing homelessness: Saturday Sanctuary, Room in the Inn, and Pritchard Park Breakfasts. We will also receive hats, gloves, socks and sleeping bags to give to those in most need.

* 9:30 p.m. Worship Service with Communion                                                                   
The Christmas story, from prophecy to nativity, is shared in scripture and song, followed by Communion.  Candle light is passed to remind us to share Christ, the light of the world.

January 10  Epiphany of the Lord Worship Service

* 6:30 p.m. The Christmas season concludes on January 6, Epiphany of the Lord, which falls on a Saturday in 2018. Following dinner and fellowship together at tables we will gather in the sanctuary for worship.  Epiphany worship celebrates the manifestation of God in the birth of Jesus Christ, expressed in the symbol of the star and the journey of the Magi.  Our Epiphany service is a Communion service, and it also will include our annual ritual of selecting a “star word” for the coming year. 

Fellowship, Study and Outreach Opportunities

All events are open for any age to participate. Enjoy these opportunities to gather and share God’s love with others!

December 3-21  Make a Donation to the FPCA Giving Tree
Bring an unwrapped gift for an adult or child (warm hats, gloves/mittens, scarves, or socks).  Choose an ornament from the Presbyterian Women’s and Children’s Ministry Giving Tree & take it home as your reminder to bring in items. Collected items will be distributed to Saturday Sanctuary or Room in the Inn guests. Unwrapped donations may be left under the tree in the Wallace Foyer, Ground floor.  

Sunday December 3 Loaves & Fishes Gift Market  9:00am-12:45pm
This year the Loaves & Fishes Alternative Gifts Fair benefiting non-profit agencies doing God’s work in the world will be hosted in Tuton Hall at Trinity Episcopal Church! Details here

Traditional Moravian Love Feast  Worship in the Sanctuary, 6:30pm
While the Moravians celebrate the Love Feast throughout the year, our tradition has been to celebrate the Love feast around Christmas time. Join us following dinner for a unique worship experience of song & prayer,  candles & coffee, and of course sweet Moravian cookies! Worship begins with a prelude by our youth band, and is led by our youth with assistance from both of our Children’s Choirs.   No Reservations Necessary

Dec. 14-17 Christmas Nativity from Around the World
Come see a selection of Christmas Nativity sets at the First Baptist Church of Asheville.  Special guest lectures by the Rev. Dr. Jerry Beavers on “Creche: The Nativity Scene as  Art” and "The Nativity Scene in Worship and Devotion.” This is a multi-church, free event, open to the public and all are welcome. 

Sunday December 17  Christmas Carols in the Foyer
Following the 11am worship service, during fellowship time, the Chorister Choir, 2nd-5th graders, will sing  & play carols on the steps in the Wallace Foyer.  Plan to linger over cookies, lemonade or coffee and enjoy the beautiful sounds of the season!

Sunday, December 17 Christmas Caroling for all ages  Christmas Caroling  (4:00pm)  Christmas Party for All at Habitat Brewing (5:30pm)
All ages are invited to sing carols; all invited to join in a party after caroling!  RSVP to the church office to participate– we will let you know where to meet with your group.                                      

 Sunday, December 31  Twelve Days of Christmas Potluck Brunch 9:45-10:45am  Gardner Fellowship Hall
Bring a brunch dish to share and join us for good food and fellowship, beverages will be provided.   We will gather during the 9:45am faith development hour.  If you have out of town guests or family in for the holidays bring them along too and join us!  Worship Services that morning at 8:45 & 11am.
