August 6 Asheville Youth Mission (AYM) Ministry (Room 213)
Learn more about Asheville Youth Mission (AYM) and how this ministry that we house in our building is making a huge positive impact! AYM brings youth and college groups into the Asheville area to do outreach work. The summer college aged staff of Asheville Youth Mission will give a presentation about their life-changing summer experiences. This summer’s theme Creating Spaces engages hundreds of teenagers from across the country in ministry with our Asheville neighbors. Using creativity through the arts, AYM offers each group meaningful biblical study, worship experiences and opportunity to consider how God is calling them to create space in their own churches & communities.
.August 13 A Gallery Talk (1st Floor Gallery)
Grace Carol Bomer, Asheville artist whose art is currently on exhibit in the gallery, will talk about her art. Her vision of art is that of service to God. Soli Deo Gloria (Only to God is the Glory) is the name of her studio in the River Arts District. Her art is more than surface design and abstraction; her concern is the human condition surprised by the grace of God. Her pairing of text and image references her belief that all things hold together in Christ. Guest Teacher: Grace Carol Bomer
August 20 The Ministry of Accompaniment (Room 213)
Through the ministry of accompaniment Asheville Poverty Initiative (API) will, in partnership with those on the margins, develop opportunities for education and advocacy. These opportunities will foster mutual relationships across socioeconomic boundaries deconstructing the divisive and misleading categories of the "haves" and "have nots." Learn more about API, 12 Baskets Café, and a potential new initiative. Teacher: Rev. Shannon Spencer; API Director, FPC Adjunct Pastor
August 27 FPCA Youth Living their Faith! (Fellowship Hall)
Come hear from our youth about their Summer Youth Events: Massanetta Springs Middle School Conference, Montreat Youth Conference, and the High School Mission trip to Guatemala. These experiences are transformative ones for the youth and adults who participated. For many of our middle and high school youth these events are a highlight for their summer and would not be possible without congregational support!
