As has been our tradition at First Presbyterian, we dedicate the offering on Mother’s Day to the Child Care Center in honor and memory of our mothers. Last year the offering was specifically designated to the development and construction of the new play space on Church Street. Over the last twelve months a task force made up of representatives from the Property Committee, Christian Education Committee and the Child Care Center has been working on the design and details of the new play space. The overall concept for this play space is to keep the area as natural as possible while also providing appropriate outdoor play activities for children. The task force has been advised by the Natural Learning Initiative of NC State.

The playground is estimated to cost approximately $20,000 of which about $10,000 has been donated by members of the church and the Reinhardt family in memory of Rebecca Reinhardt whose two children attended the Child Care Center and who served on the board of the center for five years.

The plans for the new playground have been drawn, and the next step is to secure city permits in order to begin implementation of the design. As soon as the permits have been secured and contractors identified, work will begin on the playground. With donations from the Mother’s Day offering and other gifts, we look forward to seeing children enjoying this special space later this year.

Thank you for your support of this vital ministry which serves children and young families in our community.
