During the fall and winter months, we open our fellowship hall on Saturday afternoon. During the hours of 9:00-3:30 p.m., we offer a warm facility, serve a healthy lunch, enjoy movies & popcorn, provide board games & prayer cards - all aimed at creating a safe place to be community with our downtown neighbors. Through this ministry of hospitality we believe we experience the boundary-breaking love of God in real ways!
Room in the Inn
As one of the founding congregations of Room In the Inn, FPCA partners with other faith communities through Homeward Bound of WNC to provide overnight hospitality for women who otherwise would be homeless. After staying with us for a week, the women (and mattresses!) travel to another faith community. Homeward Bound case managers work with the women to find ways to move them from the shelter to permanent housing. The support and compassion provided by host congregations are vital to this path to stability. Learn more about RITI here.
We partner with other faith communities to provide breakfast each quarter for our downtown neighbors in Pritchard Park. Youth & families and other groups at FPCA take the lead preparing biscuits and hard boiled eggs, as well as bringing fruit and juice to share.
Through the partnership shared by the Presbytery of WNC and two Guatemalan presbyteries, FPC-A has been paired with our sister church, the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in La Blanca, Guatemala. The partnership has been founded on friendship, prayer and visits between members of our congregation. In 2008 we began with the Ebenezer congregation a scholarship program supporting many of the children and youth of La Blanca. Our older senior high youth have regularly sent delegations to Guatemala, learning much about the history and culture of this beautiful land.
